My Urban Treats (“we”, “us”) is the food blog at myurbantreats.com, operated by Roman Horwarth. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect very little ourselves; most data collection here relates to advertising (which keeps the recipes free), anonymous analytics, and things you actively choose, like commenting or subscribing to the newsletter.
Information you give us
Comments. When you comment on a recipe, we collect the name and email address you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address (used for spam prevention). Your email is never displayed publicly.
Contact forms. If you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply to you.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, your email address is stored with our newsletter provider, Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.), and used only to send you our emails. Every email contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. Mailchimp’s privacy policy is at intuit.com/privacy.
Push notifications. If you explicitly opt in via your browser, we send push notifications about new recipes through OneSignal. You can unsubscribe at any time in your browser’s notification settings. OneSignal’s privacy policy is at onesignal.com/privacy_policy.
Information collected automatically
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, which recipes people read and how they found us — for example, how many visitors arrived from a search engine. This involves cookies and collects device and usage information. We do not use analytics data to identify individuals, and we never see your name or email through analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with Google’s browser add-on.
Pinterest. We use the Pinterest tag, which helps us understand traffic Pinterest sends us and how our pins perform. Pinterest’s privacy policy is at policy.pinterest.com.
Security and server logs. Like nearly every website, our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps), and we run security software (Wordfence) that logs IP addresses to block malicious traffic. Our site is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes visitor requests to protect and speed up the site. These records are used solely to operate and secure the site.
Advertising
Advertising is what keeps every recipe on this site free, and it is where most data collection on this site happens — by our advertising partners rather than by us.
Ad management on this site is provided by Mediavine (“Ad Provider”). Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the site, and may use first- and third-party cookies, web beacons, device identifiers and similar technologies to collect or receive information from you — such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and interactions with ads — and uses that information to provide measurement services and to show ads that are more relevant to your interests, on this site and elsewhere. In regions that require consent for such processing (including the EU, the UK and several US states), a consent banner lets you accept, decline or customise this before any personalised advertising happens, and you can change your choice at any time by reopening the banner’s privacy settings on this site. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising across many companies at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org. We honour opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control, and “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” requests, through the consent tools on this site.

Some links on this site — mostly to kitchen equipment we genuinely use — are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This costs you nothing and doesn’t affect what we recommend; the affiliate merchant may set a cookie so the purchase is attributed to us. Posts containing affiliate links are marked with a disclosure.
Embedded content
Recipes and pages may embed content from other platforms — for example Instagram posts, YouTube videos, or Pinterest buttons. Embedded content behaves as if you visited that platform directly: it may set its own cookies and collect usage data under that platform’s privacy policy, especially if you are logged in there.
Cookies and how to control them
Cookies used on this site fall into three groups: functional (needed for the site to work — for example, remembering your consent choice), analytics (Google Analytics, Pinterest tag), and advertising (set by our ad partners as described above). You can control cookies through the consent banner, through the opt-out links above, and through your browser settings, where you can view, block and delete cookies for any site. Blocking functional cookies may affect how the site works.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU, the UK GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act, or US state privacy laws such as the CCPA), you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct or delete it; object to or restrict its processing; receive it in a portable format; opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising; and complain to your local data protection authority. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.

Data retention
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments thread correctly. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Server and security logs rotate automatically and are kept for a limited period.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Some of our service providers (for example Google, Mediavine, Mailchimp, OneSignal, Cloudflare) are based in the United States or operate globally, so data they process may be transferred outside your country. These providers rely on recognised legal transfer mechanisms described in their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our tools or partners change, and the date at the top always reflects the latest revision. Significant changes will be visible here; we don’t send notifications for routine updates.
